The Collector

It's easy to bracket a film with one of the medias silly names and in recent years my favourite has been torture porn. I mean really what the fuck is torture porn? Are we talking leather, nipple clamps and paddles for spanking or are they really referring to films like Hostel, Saw and Martyrs. I for one don't give a flying fuck for titles made up for genres. Surely torture porn isn't a new fucking concept as for those of us who have watched films for many years will tell you the likes of I Spit On Your Grave, Cannibal Holocaust and Last House On The Left would surely be also classed as torture porn. All I'm saying is certain types of cinema are not really new just variations on general themes.

This of course brings me to The Collector which according to many is yet another entry in the torture porn genre. Thing is it's actually pretty good. Unlike the very tired Saw series The Collector gives a new spin on things as ex-con Arkin (Josh Stewart) decides to rob his employers home whilst they are on holiday to repay a debt to some rather nasty fuckers. Unbeknown to him the residents are not on holiday as they are been held captive by an inventive serial killer known as The Collector. The Collector basically traps a family by booby trapping their house and then slowly killing them off and let me tell you he's an inventive fucker.

Arkin is purely in the house to rob the safe but once he hears the screams of it's residents he is then in a race against time to rescue the family. I generally don't go for this kind of shit but put it down to my current mood if you like but I thought this was pretty fucking fun in a sick way. Trapped in the house by a mask wearing freak reminded me of the time I stayed at Jimmy G house one weekend. Obviously he hadn't rigged guillotines or razor blades on the windows but you get the picture. If you're looking for a break from the absolute shite out there right now then you could do alot worse than this and I for one loved the cat getting sliced in half. So what if I'm slightly twisted it's who I am. Right must go i have a some torturing to do. Now where did I put those pliers?

Those are the first good words I've read about this film.

And it's less torture porn when you came to stay and more porn torture.
