The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Since I have entered the life of a single father and that of a single man I have found it rather fucking difficult to organise my life. It seems I just can't fucking adjust to the difference in lifestyle. Aside from the days that I have my son with me I just can't fucking get used to the simple things like spending three hours on the PS3 without so much as a "I want to watch Eastenders now" or "that new Belgian reality show Come Dine With Fritz is just about to start". No the freedom is somewhat confusing but as I grow more and more used to I realise it's fucking liberating! So with that in mind having had the boy picked up from me at lunchtime I jumped in the car and drove to MK to watch The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I rarely attend the cinema for the early afternoon showings and I realised quickly why. It's like a fucking waiting room for heaven. All I can say is thank fuck this film had subtitles because with all the fucking coughing and wheezing I couldn't hear a fucking thing. Oh to own a gun.
Anyway I suppose I better give you a review of the film of the book. For those of you who don't read, watch TV or ever leave their fucking house due to an addiction to porn The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is based on the best selling book by Stieg Larsson and is the first of a trilogy. It starts off with journalist Mikael Blomkvist receiving a three month jail sentence for libel against business man Hans-Erik Wennerstrom. As is the case in that most liberal of countries Sweden he has a little time to spare before he has to serve it. He is approached by lawyer Dirch Frode who asks him to meet with his client who was one time head of multi national corperation The Wagner Group. He quickly learns that Henrik Wagner wishes for him to look into the disappearance of his niece Harriet some forty years ago. As he unravels the mystery he joins forces with Lisbeth Salander a seriously troubled yet genius hacker and investigator.
Now I've read the book and it is fucking brilliant no question and as is always the case when you watch adaptations you have a little nerve about you but this is fucking superb and is the first really fucking good thriller of the year (although it came out in Scandanavia last year). Obviously some things are skipped over or missed out from the book but it doesn't really matter as this is as tense as they come. I knew who was responsible from the outset yet still felt engaged throughout and at over two and half hours long you fucking need to be. Lisbeth is just how I envisioned her from the book and her lack of human emotion is played to perfection. Her revenge with a stun gun and tattoo gun on her guardian who brutally raped her is not for the squeamish but I felt like fucking cheering. This is one of cinemas first true anti heroines.
The story moves along well and the uncovering of dark family secrets and how it all pieces together is fucking awesome. The unsteady relationship between Lisbeth and Blomkvist is one of the films highlights as he tries to figure out what the fuck has happened to this girl to make her as she is. A dream sequence shown throughout indicates some of her history but is in fact a nod to the second part The Girl Who Played With Fire. Now I have a dragon tattoo myself but I was fucking jealous of hers as its fucking huge. If you don't like subtiltled films then this isn't for you but that just makes you a fucking retard in my book although Hollywood has a planned remake due for release in 2012. My advice don't fucking bother and watch this as once again Europe proves it has the ability to make far superior films to anything churned out of the festering arsehole of Hollywood.
