Legion

Well I've just finished my daily visit to the gym and after sweating like the Snake did in the Sasha Grey interview I thought it was about fucking time that I did a review. Being generally a lazy shit who recently has found it difficult to tear himself away from his PS3 I knew that I'd been letting the side down so I promise a few reviews in the next few days but I'm kicking off with human vs angels action flick Legion. Now lets get it out of the way from the off. If you're expecting a clever piece with religious undertones that discusses the whole armageddon and God debate then you are going to be very fucking disappointed. If however you're looking for guns, explosions and an angel vs angel setpiece fight like no other then Legion is the film for you.
Legion is set in a small gas station/cafe in the middle of fucking nowhere where a group of strangers and workers are doing the usual cafe thing. When an old lady enters nothing seems unusual until the point she tells pregnant Charlie (Adrianne Palicki) that her unborn baby is going to burn along with everyone else. This leads to the intervention of one of the customers who gets his throat bitten into for his trouble as little granny goes all demonic on his ass and starts climbing around the ceiling like Linda Blair in The Exorcist. After disposing of the saggy little bitch with a shotgun the people begin to realise something is not quite right and dark clouds massing and a swarm of flies add to the general confusion. Enter the meanest angel minus his wings (he cut them off) Michael (Paul Bettany) who after facing off against the strangers convinces them of who he is and supplies them with a shitload of weaponary to fight for their lives.
People have become demons and a swarm of angels are flying around waiting for their opportunity to kill off mankind. It seems God is a little vexed with man and how he's generally fucked up the world so is looking to wipe them out. Charlies unborn child is mankinds last hope. To be fair this is just a bit of story filler as it's more about the violence and guns than anything else. The likes of Dennis Quaid, Tyrese Gibson and Lucas Black beef up the cast but the entire film is just gearing towards the big setpiece fight between Michael and Gods angel general Gabriel (Kevin Durand) and I have to say that bit is fucking awesome.
Legion is not going to win any awards and it's a typical film that's released at this time of year. It's just an average film really but the fact it's angels makes it a little different. Would I recommend Legion for you to watch though? I don't know to be honest as it depends on where your mind is at. If you want to see a good fun action film then you could do much worse but if you're expecting it to be deep and meaningful then forget it. This is the kind of film that you might go and watch at a late showing after a few beers, a kebab and a smoke and you'd probably fucking love it, other than that and with so many other films about to hit our screens it might just be a DVD and pizza in a few months time.

AVP by any chance?
What about in terms of looks? Is this gonna benefit from a cinema viewing over DVD?
The scenes with the angels flying etc is quite nice on the big screen but I think you could happily watch it on DVD without missing too much. It's just with the likes of Alice, Green Zone etc I think maybe this will not do to well.
Saw it last night and I fucking loved it! Don't get me wrong, it's really shit – but for some strange reason that didn't matter. It's been along time since I saw a film that was just....fun.
Definitely more of a DVD watch than the flicks....
It's one of those shit but good films, as long as you don't try and get too much out of it.
Wow! Great article it really got my attention. I had no clue what "Legion" was about until my boyfriend popped it in the DVD player and told me a couple things about it. I didn't know he got it from Blockbuster but he did because there was nothing left I guess. The quoting in the movie had to be my favorite out of all. I am happy I didn't see it in theaters and waited till my boyfriend got it from Blockbuster. As an employee for DISH I can say that we are giving 3 months free of Blockbuster to new customers that come to DISH. You get unlimited movies, games and TV shows through the mail and 5 in-store exchanges. http://goo.gl/wuMrN
