Surveillance

For those of you familiar with David Lynch's work you'll know that he has one of the most fucked up minds working in Hollywood today. If you haven't seen the likes of Twin Peaks, Wild At Heart or the brilliant Mulholland Drive then you've missed out but I have to say you need to have a brain to watch his films as you can often get to the end and not understand a fucking thing that's just gone on which for me is not unlike when I have a conversation with the Boss. What you may not know is Mr Lynch has a daughter whos' first film Boxing Helena in 1993 was such a disaster as far as the critics and the public were concerned that she didn't make anything else until this years Surveillance and what a film to come back with.
A brutal murder begins the film and it is fucking brutal as a man is beaten to death as his wife/lover makes a run for it. FBI agents Anderson (Julia Ormand) and Hallaway (Bill Pullman) turn up in the small town where the murder has taken place on the trail of a pair of serial killers who have left a path of death and destruction across the US. They have three witnesses to talk to in the shape of a young girl, a drug addict woman and a police officer who have all seen the capabilities of the killers. AS camera equipment is set up they are each interviewed and a set of different but similar stories starts to unfold. We discover how they all met which includes a tale of two bored and corrupt policemen, a drug death and a dysfunctional family.
That is actually all I'm going to tell you about Surveillance as in typical Lynch fashion it's all in the story as to what the fuck is going on. There are clues scattered throughout and it's up to you to figure out where it's going. It's got a great fucking twist which although you may see coming is still pretty fucking cool. Surveillance is not for everyone and some will find it hard to watch or in some cases just not get it but I liked it. It's no fucking classic but Jennifer certainly has her fathers style yet as a little way to go before she matches his penchant for the fucked up, but it's still manages to wipe the memory of Helena. Next up for Miss Lynch is Hisss which has the tagline, She's sexy.....Venomous.....and she'll swallow you whole. I for one can't wait.
