Click to enlargeOk so I sat down to watch another film that I knew absolutely nothing about before I watched it and to be honest I was surprised. I've started to watch films on my ipod and been getting some fucking strange looks on the train with all the zombie films I've been watching and not knowing anything about this film except a cool sounding title I thought this might be along the same zombie lines. It wasn't however that didn't necessarily ruin it. There is a massive twist revealed in the final score as well.
The story starts with some guy having a bit of a mental issue, Johnathon Schaech, and he's the main character of this film. He heads out to an army base that is being dismantled and low and behold nasty things start to happen. Whilst this film has a relatively unknown cast in the way of A-list actors, having witnessed many a wooden performance by Nicolas "put the bunny back in the box" Cage (that is my number one choice for worst delivered line in the history of cinema, can you find anything worse? No? Then shut up) it again doesn't instantly make it a bad film. The acting is solid throughout and the characters have a surprising depth to them and are played out in a very convincing manner.
The film starts to kick off when Schaech gets to the army base to warn them of something nasty lurking in the depths of the base. He knows this as his mother used to work on the base and carved the name of the vault where this evil was kept into his hands as a child before killing his father and herself right in front of him (nice mum). The army do what you expect them to do. Do they take heed of the warning and leave the vault alone? Do they fuck. They go straight down there and unleash a creature on the world that might rank as one of the best sci-fi/horror monsters of any film in this genre. It feeds off energy and light and gets stronger as they army try to shoot it. It absorbs everything in it's path and keeps growing unrelentingly destroying shit. Loads

It's all non-stop action from there. There's a game of cat and mouse between Schaech and Erica Leerhsen, who was one of the army scientists against the army commander, James McDaniel. McDaniel is totally and utterly convincing as the pig-headed sergeant that won't listen to anyone and just wants to get the job done. Leerhsen and Schaech have an excellent on screen chemistry not seen in this kind of film for a long time and despite the low budget the whole film feels like it should've been a bigger blockbuster.
The creature, although it's all mainly tentacles along the ground is terrifying and really wrecks havoc on the poor citizens of the nearby town. It definitely ranks up there with some of the all time great monsters.
If you like sci-fi horror then you should definitely watch this movie of the Candyman will come and fuck you up in the night (go on say his name in the mirror a number of times if you don't believe me shit for brains).
PS: All the above is a MASSIVE FUCKING LIE. THIS FILM IS FUCKING SHOCKINGLY PATHETICLY WANKINGLY SHITHOUSE. If you watch it you are a twatfaced man whore out of 5.
