Robin Hood, Star Wars and Lord Of This Rings 3D

For some, 3D is a new phenomenon. For those of us who've seen Friday The 13th: Part 3 and Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, this isn't the first time that Hollywood has explored the third dimension.
It seems that the success of Avatar (see our review HERE) was the benchmark that the film industry was looking for. While reporting on the news that Ridley Scott has asked Universal for $8 million addition dollars to convert Robin Hood into 3D (*UPDATE* It isn't going to be 3D now – info supplied by FirstShowing), the awesome GeekTyrant has also commented on the desire of Peter Jackson to convert The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy into 3D, once he's finished work on The Hobbit.
However, looks like George Lucas will beat him to it. Although rumors have been denied a few times, industry insiders fully expect LucasFilms to convert the Star Wars saga into 3D. That might account for the current absence of Star Wars on Blu-ray.
Personally, I still think 3D is a bit of a gimmick but it seems that, more than at any time, 3D may be here to stay. Fucking yippee...
